Das Glück is a Vogerl augments the principle of a Thaumatrope, developed back in the 19th century, by a digital level. A projected, animated bird entangles itself in the struts of a cage, drawn onto one side of a spinning disk.
The work's title refers to the famous Viennese song "Das Glück is a Vogerl" by Alexander von Biczo
(Music: Karl Kratzl, 1852-1904). Listen to it on youtube Refrain: this is what a translation could be like: Das Glück is a Vogerl, Good luck is a birdie, goa liab, owa scheu. so dear but so shy; Es losd si schwea faungan, so hard to get hold of, owa fuatgflogn is glei. so easy to fly. Das Herz is der Käfig, Your heart is the bird-cage, und schaust net dazua, so see that you care, so hosd du auf amoi or you'll find no peace and ka Glück und ka Ruah. no rest anywhere.
Das Glück is a Vogerl was realized during the workshop Methoden zur Abwendung des Unglücks, organiced and funded by ÖH - Kunstuniversität Linz and Kunstraum Goethestrasse xtd..
